  • Easy installation

  • Can be moved after a few weeks to control weeds in another area

  • Will last many years

             APPLICATIONS

The Lake Carpet is the obvious choice wherever aquatic plants are a nuisance, such as diving platforms, swimming areas, docks, and marinas. The polyester and polypropylene fibers that make up the textile resist both acids and alkalis and are not biodegradable.

Because it has a higher specific density than water, it is easy to put in place and it stays down once installed.

It is very durable and can be used in high-traffic areas such as beaches and loading docks. Its low cost and ease of removal when necessary make it the ideal solution for managing aquatic vegetation. It is particularly effective against water lilies, aquatic weeds, and milfoil.

Note: Remember that aquatic plants are an important part of a natural aquatic ecosystem, especially in the ecology of shoreline areas. They provide habitat for fish to spawn, feed and hide from predators. Aquatic plants help maintain water quality by stabilizing sediments.

We recommend to limit the surface to just the amount needed to allow for safe navigation or use of waterfront property. In lakes with limited plant growth, the removal of even small amounts of plant growth may be unacceptable. In lakes choked with one type of plant growth, plant removal may be beneficial.

To find out what the regulations are in your area,  we advise you to contact your local Conservation Authority (CA) or municipality. A permit may be necessary.  In Quebec, contact le Ministère des Ressources Naturelles et Faune.

At first , the liner floats on the surface and can be easily manoeuvred into place over the area to be covered. As the liner absorbs water, it sinks rapidly into its final position. Metal or stone anchors can be used to keep the liner in place until it has settled down definitively. Installation can be done at anytime in water that is free of ice. Keep in mind that it is easier to install the liner before plants begin their growth cycle.

Size: 3 m x 10 m (10 ft x 33 ft approx.)

             installation

  1. Unroll the liner on the beach and spread it out.

  2. Grasp the liner by the corners and pull it out into the water over the desired area.

  3. The carpet will float but will sink to the bottom after a few minutes. To help keep the liner on the bottom (waves from passing boats might lift it over time), you can use rocks, sand bags, etc. or other types of weights or pegs to secure it to the bottom. You can also use ½" steel rebars inserted in PVC pipes and tied on the underside.

            Removal

It is preferable to remove the carpet as soon as all weeds have died. Grasp the side furthest from the shore and float it by reversing it while walking towards the beach.  This will remove any sand or dirt that has accumulated on it. Spread it on the ground, rinse it and dry it thoroughly before storing it.
