From "not in my backyard" to" I keep in my yard"

As much of what we consume comes from nature in a way or another, it is essential that these products be returned to nature in accordance with the natural life cycle.

Compostec was created with the intention of increasing accessibility to the most recent food waste processing technologies, to allow people to live yet a little more in harmony with their surroundings.

Like so many other citizens concerned about environmental issues, you have decided that you now will be part of the solution and not the problem. Congratulations!

You already recycle? Great! When you buy stuff, you choose products with minimal packaging, perfect! You have traded your car for a hybrid car, your gasoline lawnmower and snow blower for electric ones ... ! Well, we aren’t all there yet but there is still a lot that can be done.

What else can we do that is not expensive or complicated? Answer: we can transform our kitchen waste at home! These foods, through their production, processing and transportation, have already contributed to increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and they are now contributing to yet another problem - where to put the leftovers? They could easily metamorphose into a vital resource or at least, end their journey in your backyard and thus not cause anymore harm to our planet.

The municipal waste collection: Is this the answer?

Your municipality collects these residues and takes them to a composting site, or worse, to a landfill? Have you considered the consequences of this choice? You probably have and as a responsible citizen, this is why you are reading this now: You are looking for a better solution.

Although municipal composting allows us to add a value to domestic food waste, the transportation and mechanical processing it requires substantially increases its negative impact on our environment. Ultimately, it's a way of taking a problem and amplifying it before solving it.

THE SOLUTION! Keep these biodegradable substances at home and give them back to nature in a form that allows nature to reuse them.

The Options:

Composting:

Composting is a natural way to recycle. Composting decomposes and transforms organic material into humus, a product that looks like earth. Food scraps, leaves and yard trimmings, paper, wood, dung and agricultural residues are excellent organic matter which can be composted.

Composting is an important way to recycle, both at home and at work, where organic material is used and waste is created. It is estimated that about 50 percent of the total waste stream could be composted! Composting not only helps to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, it produces a valuable soil amendment which can improve the texture and fertility of the soil.

Biodigestion:

The aerobic biodigestion involves micro-organisms that thrive in a ventilated area. They use our putrescible waste, such as food scraps, to multiply, so that the organic material is broken down. The main objectives of aerobic digestion is to concentrate the nutrients created by the decomposing cycle. The nutrients are then absorbed by the surrounding environment. As we learned Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier in the 18th century, French chemist today considered as the forerunner of modern chemistry: "Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything changes."

The Green Cone  THE Food waste Biodigester

The Green Cone System is designed to accelerate the natural decomposition process by raising temperatures, maintaining aerobic conditions, and encouraging the growth of micro-organisms. The system processes almost all household food waste, including vegetable scraps, raw and cooked meat or fish, bones, dairy products and other organic food waste such as bread and pasta.

Consider the benefits of the Green Cone:

Food waste can be eliminated immediately.
The bins are clean.
The remaining household waste is ready for recycling.
It is easy to install and maintain.
It reduces 20% of household waste collected.
Less waste means fewer trucks on the roads.
It reduces the need for landfills and treatment plants on a large scale.

The Green Cone is a complement to the backyard composter.
